In August of this year, I plan on travelling to Mexico. I'm an American, I plan on coming back into the USA through Arizona.
In order for me to get back into the USA, I'll have to through US customs, what do I need to bring with me to prove I'm an American? Drivers License? Passport? Birth Certificate? Thanks |

If your Mexican looking you should prepare and bring lots of things such as Driver's License, Passport, Birth Certificate, and maybe some utility bills that prove that you are a US citizen and that you were born there. If your a white person, then a passport and birth certificate should be more than enough.

Best bet is US Passport. If you have that you don't need anything else. If you don't have a passport, you need a state-issued ID plus a birth certificate (this possibility was supposed to be canceled by now but the US Govt. keeps postponing effective date - you might want to check out the homeland security website for up-to-date info).

To travel to and from Mexico by land, you need a gov't issued photo I.D. and a proof of citizenship...Either a passport OR a birth certificate. See site below and read carefully. Pasports will be neeDed for all types of travel to and from Mexico after June 1 , 2009.

You need your passport. We used to be able to go into Mexico with a birth certificate and driver's license, but 9/11 changed that, and Mexico is catching up with the rest of the world on requirements.
Since you have to present your birth certificate to get a passport, that covers everything. |

All you need to know: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html
If you are traveling by air, you MUST have a passport, no exceptions. If you are traveling by land or sea, currently, it is either a passport book or passport card OR government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship (birth certificate). That will change in June 2009, and a passport will be the only possibility. |
