Do you think that UK citizens are fed up with immigrants. Is that the reason why some of the international students(Asians) are being attacked by natives last week?

i can only speak about my own point of view, but i think most people are fine with people who immigrate to the UK,i have just come back from taking my son to the sea-front for a subway sandwich, two people who served us were eastern European,..no worrys,......while we were at the sea-side i noticed a group of about 8 or 9 young Indian guys playing football,....young people unwinding & having fun on a summers afternoon,...really cool.
around here, south uk,there has been a fair amount of violence between eastern europeans, gangs & the like,.but i cant remember hearing about rcially motivated attacks lately,i think alot of the time its drunken youngsters off all nationalitys fighting, wich has always happened here. i really like the fact where i live is multi-racial. |

This country is made up of nothing but immigrants and owes its civilisation, language and culture to the likes of the Romans and Angles and Normans and all those who have gone before.
Yet in some ways the Brits have no idea of what a real multicultural society is really like - less than 10% of the population are non Whites and nearly half them live in London. In the US 30% of the population are non Whites, if you count Hispanics as Whites. Most Brits strike me as tolerant people who have a profound sense of fairness and love nothing more than rooting for the underdog. Hence the absolute uproar when tax was raised on the poor, but cut for the middle classes. Americans would shrug and say 'so what, gimme that tax cut'. Here the revolt was led by the middle classes ashamed of benefiting from those who could afford it the least. What winds me up about people who are against immigration in this country are the ones who are themselves a burden on this country - expecting tax credits for all their kids, wanting benefit for some imaginary disability and living off the dole because they can't be arsed to work. So many foreigners come here because they don't mind being cleaners or waiters or fruit pickers. To them, it sounds like a lot of money (until they arrive here and realise how high the cost of living is). But then the Brits who won't take these lower-paid jobs have the audacity to complain that foreigners are taking all their work! In the meantime those who can are selling up and moving to France or Spain, rarely without bothering to learn the language, either to run a B&B or a chip shop. Do we ever hear of Spaniards complaining about the immigrant problem and the detrimental effects on their communities? (I'm sure they do, but it would never be reported in the UK media.) But beyond the economics of it all there is I think a real and growing disturbance over religious fanaticism. This goes both ways - there are more and more hardline Christians who are just as eager to call for a crusade as Muslims who are crying jihad. Thankfully though, Britain remains a refreshingly secular society with religion having little influence on daily life. Something like what, 10% of Brits still regularly attend church? But then critics of immigration point to the rising numbers of Muslims and say, 'see, they are out to take over the country' - like the Muslims have a masterplan or something. When it's more down to the general hypocrisy and apathy that runs rife in this country (always eager to whinge, never motivated to do anything). I just can't understand why people are so quick to hate someone who might look, talk or dress differently when we all want the same things out of life. |
