    Grand Canyon South Rim

Of the two (North and South Rim), the most popular point of attraction is the Grand Canyon South Rim. Of course, this means that the place is more expensive and tends to be overcrowded.

Still, this should not discourage you from coming here all together, because the main attraction of your great escape is the Grand Canyon itself.

Have you ever wondered why the Grand Canyon South Rim is so popular among tourists? Aside from the fact that it is the most easily accessible, the Grand Canyon South Rim also offers some of the best views of the Canyon from the Canyon's edge. Due to the steady traffic of people coming to the Grand Canyon South Rim, there are many hotel facilities and lodging to help accommodate you.

    Getting There

Grand Canyon South Rim is easily accessible. Approaching from Flagstaff, Arizona, you can take US 180 to get there. An alternative would be AZ 64 if you are coming in from the west. Both of these routes cross the Coconino Plateau, providing you with beautiful mountain scenery of meadows and pine forests and absolutely no hint of the great abyss yawning just beyond the horizon.

Two miles south of the park boundary, you encounter the village of Tusayan, busy with its own airport facility, shops, hotels, large RV site, and an IMAX cinema. Just continue along the road until you reach the park entrance of the Grand Canyon South Rim.

    Attractions

The Grand Canyon South Rim offers many interesting places for you to check out. One such place is the Grand Canyon Village where two of the most famous viewpoints are located - Mather Point and Yavapai Point. Both are great for a first-time view of the Canyon.

Head on over to the next bend to find a smallish town, complete with a hospital and an interesting railway station that offers old-style steam rides from Flagstaff. In addition to that, you can find shops, restaurants, a campground, and a trailer village.

Another good place to visit at the Grand Canyon South Rim is the Western Rim. Take the scenic drive down Hermit Road and continue for several miles until the road starts to become narrow. This place is remote, perfect for someone who desires peace and quiet during their time away from home.

Parking is limited so if you are traveling to the Grand Canyon South Rim during peak season, it's likely that private vehicles are not allowed entrance. To compensate, free shuttle buses are provided.

The Eastern Rim also provides a scenic journey along the Desert View Drive. About a mile from the Visitor Center at the Grand Canyon South Rim, stop for a moment to check out the views from Yaki Point.
