    Athens, Greece Attractions

You will really have a wonderful time viewing the many Greece Attractions. Not only will you be captivated by the unique experience and feeling it brings, you will have your sights full of interesting and eye-catching structures.

One such Greece Attractions can be found at Athens. Are you familiar with Acropolis? Acropolis is actually a hill, and is so called in Athens as the "Sacred Rock". This hill was used for residential purposes and as a cult place. In this place alone you will find many monuments considered to be Greek masterpieces.

Heard of the Parthenon? It is perhaps the most popular temple located on the Acropolis hill. This monument was built for the Greek patron goddess Athena Parthenos. The architects of this building were Iktinos and Kallikrates. It is overlooking the city of Athens, Greece. Its main attraction would be the gigantic statue of Athena, which was made out of elephant ivory and gold. It has been used over the course of ancient Greece history as a church, a mosque and eventually as a munitions depository during the Turkish occupation.

Still located on the Acropolis hill, the Propylaea is one of those Athens, Greece attractions that is considered to be the monumental gateway of Acropolis. The architect Mnesikles designed it. It has a central building with two lateral wings.

Then we have the Archaeological Museum of Krameikos. In ancient Athens, this was their cemetery. The museum also holds the following items: a Marble Sphinx, Red-figure hydria, Grave stele of Dexileos, Grave stele of Eupheros, and the Grave stele of Ampharete. These steles were grave markers made out of stone with inscriptions and unique designs.

One of Athens, Greece attractions and considered to be the Port of Athens is Piraeus. It is a haven for traders & pilgrims. There can also be found the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus where modern sculptures by Georage Kastriotis can be found.

Then, perhaps the most important of all in Athens, Greece attractions is the Agora. This is considered to be the heart of ancient Athens. Appropriately called so because it is where the political, commercial, administrative, cultural and social activities took place.
There was also a time that Agora was used a both a residential and burial area before it eventually became the center of such activities mentioned above.

A visit to Athens, would lead you to more than just the attractions mentioned above. You will be astounded by the temples, monuments, museums, & sites, which have been a part of Athens' history.
