    Getting To Know Trinidad And Tobago

    An archipelagic nation located in the mesmerizing region of the Caribbean, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago shares nautical borders with Guyana in the southeast and Barbados in the northeast. The country is comprised of twenty- three islands where all lie anterior to the hurricane belt.

    Economy
    Trinidad and Tobago has obtained a fine reputation as an ideal investment ground for global commerce. It has been actively performing in the previous four years especially in the sector of producing natural gas. As a matter of fact, there was strong development in 2002 but was also faced with political uncertainties. Because of which the focus of the government was set on the tourism industry. The archipelagic nation then greatly garnered from trade surplus and low inflation. As for the banking aspect, the country has four major financial institutions such as First Citizens Bank and Republic Bank Limited, among the others.

    Demographics
    In 2005, statistics had it that Trinidad and Tobago had a population of 1.3 million. Ninety- six percent are said to reside in the bigger islands while only four percent live in the smaller ones. The ethnic structure of the archipelagic nation mirrors the past that revolved in immigration and conquest. There are two major tribal groups namely Afro- Trinidadians and Indo- Trinidadians where both consists about eighty percent of the country's inhabitants. Mixed- races are also present in the state that include Chinese, Syrian- Lebanese and European making up the rest of the people.

    Religion
    Similar to other regions in the world, Trinidad and Tobago also has diverse faith groups. Roman Catholics comprises the largest population with twenty- six percent. It is followed by Hinduism with twenty- two percent then Anglicans come in next with eight percent. There are also individuals who practice Islam but there are only six percent of them in the archipelagic state. Seventh- day Adventists are also around with four percent while the rest are either Methodists or Presbyterians. The country also has African syncretic creed cluster namely Spiritual Baptists or Shouter and Complimentary Shangos or Orisha.

    Culture
    The pre- Lenten Carnival is one of the well- celebrated events in Trinidad and Tobago. Aside from which, it is also the cradle of steel pan and calypso harmony where both have been invented around the twentieth century. This archipelagic state has varied customs remembered all throughout the year. Other sights include the indigenous forms of art that comprise of Soca, Parang, Chutney, Limbo and Pichakaree. All of which has a lot to do with the rhythm which is why the country is also known for its huge contribution in the musical scene. As a matter of fact, two natives have been awarded with the Nobel Prize, Naipaul and Walcott.
